Porto Santo

I just arrived from a work trip to the Portuguese island of “Porto Santo” in “Madeira”.

Porto Santo means Holy Harbour, and was discovered by Portuguese sailors in 1418. Since then they settled a small fishing community, which for centuries survived the multiple pirate attacks.

Nowadays is known by its golden sands and turquoise blue sea, and it’s a developing touristic destination.

… and off course… I found horses there!!!!!

Even in a extremely dry climate and hard conditions, they seem to take it well and add an exquisite note to the landscape….

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!

and a couple of friendly donkeys ...

...this one really catched my eye!

But horses are also used for transportations purposes... in a very cute way!

It was reassuring noticing that the horse driver was handling the horse in a very careful way with food and water always available, while waiting for passengers.

And now some beautiful pictures of Porto Santo to remember on the cold winter days.

... the sea is unforgetable!

view over Vila Baleira, Porto Santo's main village.

full moon by the sea...

... the hotel beach bar... What a perfect scenery for a after work drink!

Hopefully I'll be back soon!!!
