Half Pass Paradise!

Today I had the chance of riding a different horse… lucky me he was available! (Thank you so much)

He is a mature black Lusitano stallion from Ortigão Costa Stud. The kind of horse that reads our thoughts, and that requires absolutely lightness in the aids, turning the leg aid into a gentle cuddle.

This guy is a walking sofa… I could just go on all day! But he is also pretty sharp compared to the other horse I’m used to… keeping him strait is a real challenge and requires good riding (at least trying to) all the time, but once we discover where are the right buttons to push and hold he transforms the “good” in “superb”!

I forgot to say that I’m still happily stirrupless... :)

We started with the usual rising trot warm-up and the rising to seated trot transitions... and keeping the horse on the bit. The Horse was a little unsteady at first but it got better during the lesson, although not perfect. Once I got the “on the bit” attitude I was asked to ride 3 arches serpentines… that were far from perfect... but I think I got the overall idea of changing the horse´s bend and the set of aids without loosing the horse´s attitude and pace.

After this was time for the trot to canter transitions… and with this horse we just have to “think” about it and gentle pat him with the outside leg a little behind the girth... and leave it there or will change lead faster then we blink an eye… it happened sometimes… but than I got the touch of it!

And it was time for Shoulder-In… they are so nice in this horse… I even had the chance to look myself in the school mirror and perfectly see the 3 track.

… and it was time to Half Pass… and now you can start the firework!!!!!... I WANT MORE!

This horse just opened me the gates to Half Pass Paradisecan I have another go???

… I even did it at canter… YEY!

Well... it was a pretty pleasurable lesson I may say! And I even got compliments on my progress… trainer really knows how to spoil me! ;)

Note: Still lots of reports from previous lessons to catch up… but I just wanted to share this happy riding moment… Cartoon will come shortly! I promise!
